As humans, we like to use passwords that make sense to us. Passwords that are easy to remember, and has a sense of familiarity. We may incorporate personal things into our passwords, such as the birthday of a child, the name of a childhood pet, or a loved one's pet name. Humans follow intuition, and intuition is notoriously bad at coming up with truly random things.
As an example, when asked to pick a number at random between 1-100, the most common number people will pick is 37. When asked to think of a color at random, most people will think of blue (unless you're Irish, then it is green). When asked to think of a tool, most people will pick hammer.
When we make up a seemingly random password, we are unconsciously influenced by our surroundings as well as our past experiences. For whatever reason, humans feel that odd numbers are more random than even numbers, and are more likely to pick an odd number at random. The number 5 is too "in the middle" to be truly random, while 1 and 9 are too far towards either end of the spectrum. As such, we have a bias towards 3 and 7 when picking numbers that feel random to us. Of course, logically, we know that the number 4 is just as random as any other number. But while we are under pressure (which we often are when picking a password), we tend to fall back on what we feel is good, rather than what is actually good.
The password we pick may make us feel safe. But that familiarity can make our accounts easier to breach. Statistics show that 81% of all breaches that occur are due to weak, reused, or stolen passwords. PassWatch aim to change that. PassWatch can not only generate strong passwords for you, PassWatch will also remember your passwords across all your devices and automatically fill in your credentials when you try to log in. No longer will you have to struggle to remember your passwords, or reuse your passwords for all services.
